The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mount Aureol SLIFA has challenged the Sierra Leone Premier League Board (PLB) over its repeated reference to a “replay” between Bullom Stars FC and Mount Aureol SLIFA, arguing that no match was actually played between the two clubs.

In a letter addressed to the newly appointed Acting Secretary of the Sierra Leone Premier League Board, Mr. Komba, Benjamin Gordon Esq. congratulated him on his appointment while raising concerns over the handling of the disputed Bullom Stars-SLIFA fixture.

According to Gordon, the new appointment follows what he described as “serious errors” attributed to the former PLB Secretary, which he said ultimately resulted in the cancellation of the fixture between Bullom Stars and SLIFA.

He further stated that both clubs have challenged the decision of the Appeals Committee and have separately requested that the matter be reviewed by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Secretariat. Gordon said Bullom Stars requested the establishment of a Review Panel comprising the chairpersons of the various disciplinary bodies, while SLIFA asked the SLFA Executive Committee to exercise its extraordinary powers to review the matter and resolve the dispute.

He noted that, at the time of writing, the parties were still awaiting a decision from the SLFA Secretariat on whether either of the review requests would be considered. He also questioned the PLB’s use of the term “replay fixture” or “replay match,” pointing out that, according to his account, the original Bullom Stars-SLIFA fixture did not take place.

“We are therefore somewhat perplexed by your reference, on three separate occasions, to a ‘replay fixture’ or ‘replay match,’ particularly when no football match was in fact played between the two aggrieved parties,”

The correspondence also raises a separate issue concerning Abacha FC, which Gordon said is represented by his firm. According to him, Abacha FC was reinstated into the Premier League following an Appeals Committee decision but was subsequently relegated on the basis of a fixture which, he maintains, never actually took place.

Gordon said he had forwarded the images received from the new Acting Secretary to his colleague, who is the owner of Abacha FC, and indicated that the circumstances surrounding the club’s reinstatement and subsequent relegation could have wider implications.

The letter concludes with Gordon informing the PLB that he would provide an update once the SLFA Secretariat makes a determination on whether the requests for a review submitted by Bullom Stars and SLIFA will be entertained.

The dispute therefore remains unresolved, with attention now turning to the SLFA Secretariat and whether it will initiate a review of the decisions surrounding the Bullom Stars-SLIFA fixture. The latest development could have implications for the final composition of the Premier League and the status of the clubs involved, depending on any subsequent decision by the competent football authorities.
