Every time the Leone Stars job is discussed, Mohamed Kallon’s supporters behave as if Sierra Leone football begins and ends with one man. It does not.

The reality is that football is a results business, not a popularity contest. Social media likes, emotional videos and endless online campaigns do not qualify anyone for a coaching position. Achievements do.

Supporters continue to portray Kallon as the answer to every problem facing Leone Stars, yet they struggle to point to any major coaching accomplishment that justifies such confidence.

If Kallon is truly the coaching genius some claim he is, why have clubs and national teams not been lining up for his signature? Football is a global industry. Successful coaches rarely remain unemployed for long.

Leone Stars did exist before Kallon and will certainly exist after him. Coaches come and go. The national team remains.

What is even more puzzling is the relentless campaign by a former employee to return to a position from which he was removed for gross indiscipline. In professional football, people move on. They seek new challenges and prove themselves elsewhere. They do not spend years trying to convince the same employer to reconsider.

The truth some supporters refuse to accept is that Sierra Leone football cannot afford to become a one-man project. No individual is bigger than the national team, and no amount of online pressure will change that fact.

Those still campaigning for Kallon may continue to trend hashtags and flood comment sections, but the decision on who coaches Leone Stars will not be determined by Facebook posts, WhatsApp statuses or emotional appeals.

Football requires competence, discipline and results, not nostalgia.
