Former Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Thomas Daddy Brima has denied authoring a controversial social media post describing Leone Stars’ back-to-back defeats to Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea as a “waste” of nearly $1 million.

The post, which circulated widely on social media and appeared on Brima’s WhatsApp status, read: “Nearly $1 million wasted: Leone Stars suffered shameful back-to-back defeats.”

The post generated reactions among football fans, with some questioning the apparent tone of the message coming from a former SLFA president who previously called on Sierra Leoneans to put the country first and move away from football politics.

However, when contacted by http://www.sierraleonenews.org, Brima denied being the author of the statement and provided an explanation of how it appeared on his WhatsApp status.

“The fact is, it was sent to me to validate. I responded to the sender that I was not interested in that discussion,” Brima explained.

He said that while attempting to delete the message, it was inadvertently posted on his public space.

“However, in trying to delete, it went to my public space,” he said.

Brima added that he subsequently published a disclaimer on the same platform but believes the incident is part of what he described as a pattern of defamation.

“I publicly wrote a disclaimer on the same space but I guess it’s just the same pattern, defamation,” he stated.

Despite the controversy surrounding the post, Brima concluded his response by wishing the current SLFA administration and the Leone Stars team well.

“Good luck to Babadi Kamara and his boys,” he said.
