Last year’s runners-up, Ram Kamara, beat defending champions Mogbwema Queens 2-1 on Saturday at the Southern Arena Complex to lift the SLFA Women’s Unity Cup.

Ram Kamara doubled their advantage just five minutes later when Kadiatu G. Kamara struck to make it 2-0.

Mogbwema Queens’ problems increased before half-time when midfielder Fatmata Turay was shown a red card following a reckless challenge, leaving the defending champions with 10 players.

Ram Kamara went into the break with a two-goal lead and a numerical advantage.

Despite being a player down, Mogbwema Queens returned for the second half with renewed determination and began controlling possession. Their pressure paid off in the 51st minute when Emma J.K. Kamara scored an own goal following a communication error between her and the goalkeeper.

The goal gave Mogbwema Queens renewed hope, and they continued to dominate possession while creating several opportunities to equalise. However, Ram Kamara’s defence held firm, while goalkeeper Salam Barlatt made important saves to prevent the score from being levelled.

Ram Kamara struggled to make full use of their numerical advantage but managed to hold on and prevent the game from going to a penalty shootout, securing a 2-1 victory and the Unity Cup.

SLFA President Babadi Kamara presented medals to both teams following the final.

Several football dignitaries witnessed the exciting encounter, including SLFA First Vice President Alie Badara Tarawallie, Second Vice President Prince Kai Saquee, Executive Director Mohamed Alphaka Conteh Esq., General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh, Deputy General Secretary Ishmael Saidu Kanu Esq., Sierra Leone Premier League Board Chairman Osman Tommy, and Women’s Premier League Board General Secretary Angela Gabbidon Esq.

The football festival continues tomorrow when Premier League champions Bo Rangers take on FA Cup champions East End Lions at the same venue.
