Lawyer Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, widely known as JFK, has been returned to Pademba Road Correctional Centre after making a brief appearance at the Supreme Court on Friday.

Kamara, who is representing Osman Abdal Timbo in the constitutional amendment challenge, was expected to have his bail application heard and to address the Court over the contempt matter involving him.

However, the anticipated hearing did not take place, and Kamara was subsequently taken back into custody.

His return to court had been expected to create an opportunity for the bail application to proceed, but the matter was not heard.

The lawyer is now expected to remain in custody until Tuesday, October 13, when the Supreme Court is scheduled to continue proceedings related to the Constitutional Amendment Bill, which was treated as having been passed in August.

Kamara was detained on Thursday after the Supreme Court found him in contempt following a disagreement over an order directing him to apologise and retract a statement made during the constitutional amendment proceedings.

The situation escalated during arguments over objections to documents filed by the Attorney-General’s Office. The Court later adjourned the wider constitutional matter until Tuesday.

Kamara’s continued detention has added another significant development to the closely followed constitutional case, with Tuesday’s proceedings expected to determine the next steps, including whether his bail application will finally be heard.
