The National Scrabble Association of Sierra Leone (NSASL) is appealing for financial support ahead of the 26th Africa Scrabble Championship (ASC 2026), scheduled to take place in Monrovia, Liberia.

As preparations continue for the continental competition, the association faces the challenge of securing the necessary funding to enable its players to represent Sierra Leone on the international stage.

One individual who has played a significant role in supporting the association during previous international competitions is former Minister of Sports Ibrahim Nylenkeh. His past contributions have been instrumental in helping the association participate in international events.

Despite the financial difficulties, members of the association have continued to make personal sacrifices, using their limited resources to ensure that Sierra Leone’s green, white and blue flag remains represented in international Scrabble competitions.

However, the financial burden has become increasingly challenging, highlighting the need for support from the government, corporate institutions, philanthropists and other well-meaning Sierra Leoneans.

With ASC 2026 approaching, timely assistance could make a significant difference in helping the country’s players participate in the championship and compete against some of Africa’s best Scrabble players.

The association’s appeal also presents an opportunity for stakeholders to invest in Scrabble, a mind sport that promotes intellectual development, strategic thinking and national pride.

As the team looks towards Monrovia, the hope is that the relevant authorities and potential sponsors will respond positively to the appeal and help Sierra Leone maintain its presence at one of Africa’s leading Scrabble competitions.
