Sierra Leonean central defender Andulai Juma Bah has received the backing of his German club, FC Augsburg, after being targeted with racist abuse and death threats on Instagram.
The incident followed Bah’s sending-off in the 63rd minute of Augsburg’s 1-1 home draw against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Union Berlin had also seen one of their players dismissed in the 19th minute.
In response, FC Augsburg issued a strong statement under the headline “No Room for Racism,” condemning the abuse directed at the Sierra Leone international and threats made against his family.
The club described the messages as deeply disturbing and stressed that racism, hatred and threats against players would never be tolerated.
Augsburg emphasised that attacks on a player because of his skin colour, background, religion or nationality go against the club’s values, adding that everyone deserves respect, dignity and safety.
The German club also confirmed that it would report the incident to the police and explore all available legal options to hold those responsible accountable.
Augsburg concluded its statement by expressing solidarity with Bah, reaffirming its commitment to fighting racism and hatred with the message: “No Room for Racism. No Room for Hate.”
