Sierra Leone’s Mohamed Alieu Kamara has continued to fly the green, white and blue flag high after securing a silver medal at the just-concluded Mind Sports Olympiad event in England.
Kamara outshone 26 other competitors, finishing with 5 wins and 2 losses and an impressive spread of +798. He came close to challenging for gold, but Craig Solomons proved too strong, winning all seven games to claim the title.
The tournament forms part of Kamara’s preparations for the Africa Scrabble Championship (AFC), which will be held in Monrovia, Liberia, in October.
Kamara said: “I am delighted to finish in second position and keep flying the green, white and blue flag higher,” Mohamed said.
He added: “Now it is time to focus on the AFC in Liberia. Team Sierra Leone will soon hold our national championship to select the best team for the Monrovia challenge. I know it will not be easy, but with determination and spending nights finding words, we will definitely achieve our goals.”
