The Sierra Leone National Scrabble Association is set to host its National Championship on September 26–27, 2026, in Freetown, with some of the country’s leading Scrabble players expected to battle for the prestigious title.

Among the players expected to compete are Foday Fofanah, who has been in impressive form, veteran Ismael Sesay, Ken Clarke, Alie Mansaray, Gazalie Kanu, Fumi Samura, reigning President Christian Asgill, Victoria Mammah, Fodah Conteh, Mustapha Mattia, Ibrahim Conteh (Monday), and Vice President Patrick Sam Mboma.

Emmanuel King Esq., who recently tendered an apology after leaving the association, will not feature in the championship. His return to the association is still subject to consideration by the Disciplinary Committee.

Also absent will be Josbin Nicka and Ibrahim Deen Swaray, who reportedly left the association alongside King following their defeat to the incumbent Christian Asgill in the association’s recent election.

The National Championship will also provide an important opportunity for players to prepare for next month’s Africa Scrabble Championship (ASC), which will be hosted in Monrovia, Liberia.

Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers, with awards expected to be presented from first through seventh place.

With several experienced players and emerging talents expected to compete, the two-day championship promises to provide a strong test of form ahead of the continental competition.
